Early each summer, visitors come from far and wide to the Wilderness Road Blockhouse at Natural Tunnel State Park, to watch encounters between the frontiersmen and the Indians. Both were, at times, helpful and friendly to each other; and treacherous, deceitful, and savage. Re-enactors, merchants, and craftsmen bring this history to life at "Siege at the Blockhouse.” The fifth annual Siege will be held May 31 - June 1, with activities scheduled on Saturday from 9am to 9pm, with a Revolutionary War Memorial at 10am, Horse Race at 11am, the Siege at 1pm, Campfire and Storytelling at 7:30pm and a Night Raid at 8:30pm. On Sunday, there will be activities from 10am to 3pm, with a Frontier Church Service at 11am. Visitors will be able to walk through an 18th century encampment of Kentucky-bound settlers, watch as other travelers arrive on horseback, see various period crafts demonstrated, and visit a Woodland Indian camp. They may visit the Blockhouse, a representation of John Anderson's fortified home. Colonial musicians and activities for children will also be on hand. The highlight of the event is the Siege, at 1 PM on Saturday, when hostilities develop between the peaceful Indians, who have come to trade, and frontiersmen who are underhanded in their dealings with the natives. Daniel Boone, who blazed that portion of the Wilderness Road to Kentucky beginning at the Blockhouse, in 1775, will assist Captain Anderson, and the other frontiersmen; while Captain Will and Benge lead the Indians. There will be a $2/vehicle parking fee on Saturday. We are now accepting canoe reservations for the summer.
