indexHike to the Tub

This hike into the Jefferson National Forest gives you a peek at the hidden natural features of this area. The Devils Fork Loop Trail is an impressively beautiful route through an old-growth hemlock and rhododendron forest. Amazing rock formations, waterfalls, swimming holes and mountain views give you plenty to see and do. The western side of the loop is the only portion on an old rail bed that was used to transport logs and coal. The corridor is not as wide as a standard-gauge railway, and the grade is much steeper, which provided the trains with better access to these resources. The hike is strenuous; crossing the creek 12 times going in and coming out. You will be getting wet. This is a 1.5 mile hike that will take roughly four hours. To register or for more information, call (276) 940-2674. Pre-registration required. This program is open to anyone age 10 and up. For your comfort and safety appropriate footwear is required, no flip-flops, crocs, or sandals. Cost is a donation of $5 per person. No pets allowed. Dress for the weather.
